What Is the Mode?
The mode is the value that appears most frequently in a dataset. A dataset can have no mode (all values appear once), one mode (unimodal), two modes (bimodal), or multiple modes (multimodal). Unlike the mean and median, the mode can be used with categorical data.
When to Use the Mode
The mode is most useful for categorical data (most popular color, most common shoe size) and for identifying peaks in frequency distributions. For continuous numerical data, the mean or median is usually more informative. However, in multimodal distributions, the mode reveals clusters that mean and median miss.
